"In July my brother Dan and I traveled to the Northwest Territories and had the pleasure to hunt again with Stan and Helen Stevens of Mackenzie Mountain outfitters. This was my third time and Dan’s 17th time hunting with Stan and Helen. We were able to hunt together with our friend and guide Scotty Boyd until I got my ram and then Dan hunted another area with Stan and Helen’s son Glen. We not only had another outstanding hunt we started our hunt on the ‘Plains of Abraham’. This is the same area that Gordon Eastman made the great video years ago and where the U.S. troops constructed the Canol road and oil pipeline during the war in the 1940’s from Whitehorse to Norman Wells. I have read the book, A Walk Along the Canol Road and watched the Gordon Eastman video but never thought that I would be there myself. It was an experience in history as when the U.S. shut down the operation all of the buildings, trucks and equipment, and were left and still remain after 60 years. The trucks still have the firestone spark plugs in their motors and the snow chains were still around their wheels, although the rubber tires have all deteriorated. We certainly enjoyed the hunt and the fishing with Scotty and his dog Moose. We were able to find five rams and after a perfect stalk, were able to take a great old ram that completed my second Collection of Four North American Wild Sheep (CFNAWS). When we checked the ram out at the wildlife office in Norman Wells it was aged between 11-1/2 and 15-1/2 so they called it 11-1/2 years-old. My brother Dan passed on a number of rams and plans to return again next year to look for that special ram. A special thank you goes to my brother Dan, Stan and Helen and Scotty for not only the great trophy but for making a dream come true. Also, a big thank you to, Jessica and Helen for their great cooking, Glen, Danny, Avery, Jeff for their friendship, basically the entire crew. Every aspect of the hunt was first class."
