"I just returned from an Alaskan brown bear hunt with Rohrer Bear Camp of Kodiak, AK. When I booked in 2004 I chose the toughest hunt they had, which was a six hour backpack hike up a valley to the honey hole. Opening day it poured rain, so we waited until the next day to hike up the valley. We arrived early afternoon and after looking over three other bears, a big boar came wandering in. at 6:30 that evening we had a 10’ 1" (squared) bear on the ground, a short 120 yards from out spike camp. It took another 3 ½ days to get back to base camp. By the time we skinned, fleshed, and packed the hide out. After a couple days of more bad weather at base camp, we finally got out to hunt a sitka deer. In between snow storms we managed t take a nice buck. The rest of the trip, I was able to travel with Dick looking for a bear for the other hunter that was in camp. I want to thank Dick, Sue and my guide Sam Rohrer for a perfectly organized and fun hunt. As dick and I talked afterwards, that sometimes is the toughest hunt turns out to be the easiest hunt."
