The Grant-In-Aid Update
Updated: 12:16pm March 27th, 2009
  • Each year WSF hosts its Annual Convention where most of the organization’s annual operating funds are raised. The recent 2008 Convention held in Salt Lake City, UT, allowed WSF to immediately fund $2.5 million for wild sheep and other wildlife.

FNAWS initiated the special “Governor’s” permits. This permit program has now been adopted in dozens of states and provinces. Through this special permit program, WSF generates money for the various wildlife management departments with whom we partner. WSF handles more of these permits than any other organization. In 2007, WSF sold 36 of these special permits. We have partnered with 25 different wildlife management jurisdictions to help generate money for them to fund projects. To date, WSF generated funding from these permits exceeds $30 million.

WSF is a membership organization that consists of people from around the world who want to be a part of an effective wildlife conservation organization.

Many of our members have contributed further by becoming Life Members and/or giving to the WSF Endowment Fund. Currently these funds contain $2.4 million and $4.9 million respectively. These accounts will help ensure that WSF will forever be able to meet its mission.

  • Applying for funding from WSF:
The Foundation is actively involved in the conservation, propagation and intensive management of wild sheep and their habitats. The Foundation annually funds a wide variety of meaningful and essential projects from a variety of grant applicants.

Some major areas of consideration are: biological studies and research projects, buffer land acquisitions, wild sheep transplants and the re-establishment of wild sheep populations into suitable historic habitat, wildlife habitat enhancement, prudent wild sheep management, safeguarding the environment, repress poaching and fostering sportsmen’s rights.

The Foundation does not fund administrative costs for projects. The goal of the Foundation is not only to provide funding, but also to achieve measurable results. The Foundation’s effective stewardship in project funding makes it a leader among conservation organizations. Grant-In-Aid application forms are accepted at any time during the year, but must reach Foundation Headquarters by the annual deadline, May 15th. Information and guidelines can be obtained by emailing Becky Layne at blayne@wildsheepfoundation.org or by contacting the Foundation Headquarters, 720 Allen Avenue, Cody, WY 82414, (307)527-6261 or Fax (307)527-7117.
