An Editorial on Iranian Wildlife Conservation
As an International Hunter and Wildlife Conservationist, I'd like to point out the importance of Conservation/Hunter relationships, how it works, and how it has been effective in wildlife conservation. My name is Ron Roderick, past Chairman for the International Sheep Hunters Association. I am also active in the Wild Sheep Foundation in which I Co-Chair one of its divisions. I wish to emphasize how hunting and wildlife conservation can have international implications.
Centennial Mountains domestic sheep grazing station heavily criticized by Idaho & Montana National Wildlife Federations
The Idaho, Montana and National Wildlife Federations today sharply criticized a new decision by the U.S. Experimental Sheep Station to again graze domestic sheep in the Centennial Mountains.
“Ever since the Sheep Station began reviewing their grazing program they have ignored wildlife concerns”, said Brian Brooks, Executive Director of the Idaho Wildlife Federation. “The Centennial Mountains are some of the best wildlife habitat in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem but the Sheep Station insists on keeping these high elevation grasslands exclusively as pastures for domestic sheep and blocking the public to hunting and other recreation.”
The Wild Sheep Foundation Unveils World Record Rocky Mountain Bighorn
At their 3rd annual Open House event last Friday, July 13, the Wild Sheep Foundation (WSF) unveiled a life-sized mount of the world record Rocky Mountain bighorn ram. With horns measuring 216 3/8 inches, the new world record ram surpasses its predecessor from Alberta, B.C., by nearly seven inches. The new world-record ram was nine years old when it died and had lived its entire life on the 2,160-acre Wild Horse Island, located within the bounds of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes of the Flathead Reservation.
