About Val Geist
Valerius Geist, PhD. Professor Emeritus of Environmental Science The University of Calgary, Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Founding member of the Faculty of Environmental Design. Associate Dean and Program Director for Environmental Science. My primary interest is the biology of large mammals, humans included, as well as science applied to wildlife management. Author, Co-author or editor of 23 books and recipient of numerous literary awards, including Book of the Year Award by The Wildlife Society. Author of over 150 refereed papers, book chapters & commentaries; over 50 entries in 19 encyclopaedias and many popular articles, book chapters, books and audio-visual recordings. Widowed after a wonderful marriage of 53 years to Renate A. Geist, nee Brall., 3 children, 5 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren. Avid hunter, rifleman, fisher and cook. Finished my second book on human evolution: “Condemned to Art and Insanity. Our Natural History.” And a book on mountain goats.
