Kicked out podcast episode 27 with Taylor SledgeWhat does a lifelong Mississippi hunter have in common with a sheep hunter chasing wild rams across the mountains? For Taylor Sledge, the answer is simple: it’s all connected.

In this episode of Kicked Out, Maddie Richards sits down with Taylor Sledge, an entrepreneur, husband, father, lifelong Mississippian, and passionate hunter, to hear how a love for the outdoors became an important part of his life—and a legacy he hopes to pass on to his children.

Taylor grew up hunting and fishing with his parents and brother in Mississippi, where time outdoors was woven into his family’s story. Today, he is intentionally creating that same tradition with his own family. Taylor and his wife have three sons who are already following in their footsteps. Whether they’re fishing, hunting, working around their property, or simply spending time outside, the outdoors are a central part of their family life.

And his boys aren't just interested—they’re already putting in the work. Taylor shares the story of his two oldest sons harvesting their first whitetails with a bow at just ten years old, as well as the everyday adventures that come with raising three boys who would rather be outside than anywhere else.

Beyond his life as a father and hunter, Taylor is also an entrepreneur. After graduating from the University of Mississippi, he entered the financial industry and eventually built his own business, Sledge Legacy Partners, where he works with entrepreneurs and family-owned businesses on complex estate planning, financial planning, and investment management.

Interestingly, Taylor sees a strong connection between his professional life and his passion for hunting. Both require discipline, personal development, persistence, and a willingness to pursue ambitious goals. One of his mentors in the financial world would also play an important role in his journey into sheep hunting.

For a hunter from Mississippi, sheep hunting might seem like an unlikely pursuit. But Taylor’s story shows how curiosity, relationships, and a willingness to chase a new challenge can take you far beyond the familiar.
In this episode, you’ll hear about:

  • Taylor’s upbringing in Mississippi and how hunting and fishing became part of his family tradition.
  • Raising three boys who share his passion for the outdoors.
  • The lessons Taylor hopes to pass on to the next generation.
  • His journey from Ole Miss graduate to entrepreneur and business owner.
  • The connection between entrepreneurship, personal development, and hunting.
  • The mentors and relationships that helped introduce Taylor to sheep hunting.
  • How a Mississippi outdoorsman found his way into the world of Western hunting.

Taylor’s story is ultimately about more than sheep. It’s about building a life around the things that matter most—family, hard work, meaningful relationships, and time spent outdoors. His passion for hunting isn't simply something he enjoys; it’s something he wants to intentionally carry forward through the next generation.

Join Maddie and Taylor for a conversation about growing up hunting in Mississippi, raising the next generation of outdoorsmen, building a business, chasing big goals, and discovering that sometimes the most unexpected adventures begin by simply being willing to say, “Why not?”
