Conservation interests often begin long before careers and research projects. They start with curiosity. That curiosity was on full display in Reno, Nevada, during the Youth Wildlife Conservation Experience, a hands-on education program hosted by the Wild Sheep Foundation as part of its annual Sheep Show.
 

Recently, Wild Sheep Foundation's Shooting, Hunting & Ethics Education Program (S.H.E.E.P.) coordinator, Ryan Brock, was able to visit southern Nevada to help students in the Silver State better understand their state mammal, the desert bighorn sheep.

The story ends with eating a heart—yes, a deer heart—but that’s only the finale. It begins in a Nevada airport, where three young girls—two seventh graders and a third grader—met before flying across the country for a youth deer hunt in Missouri.

During the recent Sheep Show® in Reno, NV, the Wild Sheep Foundation (WSF) welcomed over 3,000 young people and their families to its annual Youth Wildlife Conservation Experience (YWCE).

The Wild Sheep Foundation announced the winners of its Life Membership Fund Scholarships. This year’s top scholarships go to Catherine Cummings, from Auburn, Alabama, and Megan Mellor, attending the University of Nevada, Reno.

Thornton visits with Dr. Brock on the genesis of the YWCE, its phenomenal growth under his leadership, the launch of S.H.E.E.P. and its reach and focus, Ryan’s work launching a WSF-sponsored youth archery team, and new hunting programs currently in development.

"Exciting and inspiring the next generation." That's the rallying cry for The Wild Sheep Foundation's (WSF) Youth Wildlife Conservation Experience (YWCE). As part of WSF's Sheep Show® at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center, this outreach impacted a record 2,745 school-aged children through hands-on wildlife educational experiences.
