Introducing Sparks: The Next Generation of Hunters and Conservationists

Ignite - Episode 43

Tuesday, October 27, 2026

Ignite Podcast guest Dr. Ryan BrockWhat happens when we give young people the opportunity to explore the outdoors, learn new skills, and discover their place in the world of hunting and conservation? We spark something that can last a lifetime!

In this episode of the Ignite Podcast, Dana is joined by Renée Thornton and Dr. Ryan Brock of the Wild Sheep Foundation to introduce Sparks, an exciting new series dedicated to highlighting young people who are making a difference in the hunting and conservation community. Sparks will celebrate the next generation of outdoor enthusiasts, sharing their stories, passions, and accomplishments while inspiring more youth to get involved.

The conversation explores why connecting kids with the outdoors is more important than ever. In a world filled with screens, busy schedules, and organized activities, creating opportunities for young people to experience nature firsthand can have a lasting impact. Whether it’s learning archery, going camping, participating in a hunting experience, or getting involved in a conservation project, these hands-on opportunities help build confidence, encourage curiosity, and foster a deeper appreciation for wildlife and wild places.

The trio also discusses the important role that organizations like the Wild Sheep Foundation play in introducing youth to conservation. Through initiatives such as the Youth Wildlife Conservation Experience (YWCE), educational resources, and opportunities to learn from experienced mentors, young people can discover that conservation is about more than protecting wildlife. It’s about understanding our responsibility to the land, developing practical skills, and becoming active participants in the future of our natural world.

Of course, getting kids involved doesn’t happen on its own. It takes parents, teachers, mentors, volunteers, and communities who are willing to open doors and make outdoor experiences accessible. The group discusses the value of encouraging young people, giving them room to learn, and helping them discover what excites them about the outdoors. Sometimes, all it takes is one experience, one encouraging adult, or one new skill to ignite a passion that grows for years to come.

That’s exactly what Sparks is all about: shining a light on the young people who are already doing incredible things in hunting and conservation, while encouraging others to follow in their footsteps. Their stories remind us that the future of conservation depends on the next generation—and that investing in young people today helps build stronger outdoor communities tomorrow.

Join us as we kick off this new chapter of the Ignite Podcast and explore how we can inspire, encourage, and empower the next generation. Because every great passion starts somewhere, and sometimes, all it takes is a spark.
