The Wild Sheep Foundation, in partnership with the Arizona Desert Bighorn Sheep Society, just concluded a raffle for the Arizona Game & Fish Department. The result was a new record set for an Arizona sheep tag raffle. Through the generosity and commitment to wild sheep conservation, $357,900 was raised for the chance to be drawn for an Arizona Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep tag.

A significant trap and transplant operation occurred in mid-June in southern Nevada to aid a desert bighorn sheep population that has been at risk due to chronic drought conditions impacting both surface water and available forage. The Nevada Department of Wildlife, KUIU, Grand Slam Club Ovis, Fraternity of the Desert Bighorn, Nevada Bighorns Unlimited, the Wild Sheep Foundation (WSF), and a host of Nevada conservation NGOs partnered on a rescue mission.

The Wild Sheep Foundation announced a special opportunity for a chance at one of the most highly coveted tags in big game hunting. In partnership with the Arizona Game & Fish Department, and Arizona Desert Bighorn Sheep Society, WSF will be offering raffle ticket chances for a Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep tag through June 30th.  This special raffle tag will be valid in most hunting districts in Arizona from Aug 15, 2025–Aug 14, 2026.

The Wyoming Governor's Big Game License Coalition finalized its 2025 project funding by allocating $1.5+ million for Wyoming wildlife conservation projects with monies raised by auctioning special big game tags in 2024 and 2025. A total of 73 projects that benefit the Coalition’s five priority big game species will be funded.

This past February, the Nebraska Game & Parks Commission (NGPC) successfully helicopter captured, tested, collared, and released 36 bighorn sheep in the Wildcat Hills as part of an ongoing effort to enhance the state's bighorn sheep population.

With hunting being such a big part of my life growing up, there has always been the excitement of big game draw day. I woke early in spring of 2024 to see if I had drawn any tags. I passed the word UNSUCCESSFUL a few times and then launched out of bed when I saw SUCCESSFUL in green beside bighorn sheep. After 17 years, I had finally drawn an Oregon ram tag. I immediately called my dad, mom, and brother to tell them the great news, knowing they would be as excited as me.

A sheep hunter at 16, Lindsey Stroud thought she would never set foot in sheep country after a life-changing event nearly sidelined her forever. Once she learned how to walk and talk again, she drew a tag and certainly did not let it go to waste. 

The Tri-State Region of Washington, Oregon, and Idaho has a rich history of producing massive bighorn rams. But one doesn't have to dig far back in the records to see incredible specimens.

Twenty-six Rock Mountain bighorn sheep have been documented road killed in western Nebraska since 2009. And 18 of them have died along a short stretch of Highway 71, most within the last three years. Those are significant losses when considering Nebraska's entire bighorn population is fewer than 225.

The rugged buttes, mesas, and canyons in Nebraska’s Panhandle dramatically contrast with the plains and sandhills of most of the state. Along with mule deer, prairie rattlesnakes, and coyotes here, live Rocky Mountain bighorns.
